Marnya Rothe is an award winning and widely published photographic artist best known for her debut photographic series ‘Cut Out’, and her revealing and authentic portraits of well known Australian artists and performers.
Marnya’s new work explores our collective loss of connection to the natural world. In these portraits, Marnya replaces her human subjects with found objects discarded by nature: A shell; an exoskeleton of cicada; a beetle; a moth; a snake skin. These portraits listen and explore the life once lived, and reveal the surprising beautiful worlds with-in each object still. They are a memory of, and a bridge back to, the natural world.
